It is not difficult to get your video content onto YouTube or any video hosting site for that matter. However, you may get the video up there, but is your video content engaging enough for your audience? Are you connecting with them? Do they visit your website as a result of watching your video? If not then you may have to alter something in the video itself.
YouTube has a good variety of video content to choose from. Everything from funny, sexy, educational, how to, controversial, humorous, informative, shocking, personal etc. You should aim to have at least one of these elements in your video. Aim to give value in your video content and you will engage the viewer.
Here are 5 steps to creating the perfect video
1) Video length
Keep in mind that people on the internet tend to have short attention spans. If your video is going on and on then they may want to click onto something else that is shorter. Try to keep the time down to around two minutes; there really is no need for anything much longer. You should be able to get your message across in that time.
2) Demonstrations or reviews
People love to see videos that teach them something. Imagine they want to purchase a new camera and know little about it. Chances are someone has produced a review or demonstration video on the subject and uploaded it to YouTube. The same could be said about your company, product or service. If you can explain what it is you have to offer in a concise, easy to understand way then you will reap the benefits.
3) High video traffic is not always needed
You do not have to make an epic Ben-Hur type of video – in fact short simple videos tend to be better for some things such as high priced items. Take real estate for example. A short video shot by an amateur can bring in great returns on investment.
4) Good picture quality and sound
There is nothing worse than a video that is out of focus, too dark etc. In all honesty, if you do produce something like that then don’t bother uploading it to YouTube unless you quickly want to lose viewers and potential sales. Aim to produce the best picture quality possible. You do not need any fancy Hollywood camera equipment to do this either. Smartphones do a good job of creating quality high definition video.
Also ensure that the sound quality is high and speak clearly. So many times I have come across videos where the person is demonstrating something, but sounds like they are at a funeral. You won’t engage your viewer if you have a monotone voice. Don’t drone on an on and try to add some personality to your voice. Make it upbeat and look like you are enjoying yourself.
You will need to invest in a decent quality microphone if you find your sound quality is not as you expect. You can find a reasonably priced, good quality microphone in a computer store. Make sure there is no interfering background noise when you are shooting your scene.
It can pay dividends to spend some time rehearsing your performance. You will find when you come to do the real thing, the nerves are gone and you come across confidently. By rehearsing you also get a chance to review what you have recorded and iron out any bad picture or sound problems.
Online video is a powerful internet marketing strategy which your business should be adopting right now. By getting your message across in video, you are bringing more visitors to your website and experiencing more sales.
